During the visit, Gaintdinov emphasized the significance and potential of the Astara port complex in fostering economic cooperation between Iran and Russia. He noted that Astara’s international sea, land, rail, and transit borders, along with its strategic geographic location, position it as a crucial hub for exports, imports, and cargo transit within the Caspian Sea region.
Gaintdinov also highlighted the historical and economic ties between Russia and Iran, stating that expanding trade and economic relations with Iran, particularly with northern provinces such as Gilan, is a priority. He emphasized the need to establish connections between the coastal provinces of Iran and the regions within the Volga and Ural areas of the Russian Federation, adding that a new chapter of economic cooperation between Iran and Russia has commenced in Gilan province.
He further stated that the aim is to develop trade cooperation with Iran in both the agricultural and industrial sectors, and that Ulyanovsk province is prepared to transport various goods through Iran for export to regional markets.
Ulyanovsk province is a key industrial and agricultural region within the Russian Federation and serves as a pivotal transit point within the North-South Corridor project. This corridor is expected to play a crucial role in boosting regional and international economic prosperity for Iran by reducing transit times and diversifying export routes.
