China Urges Japan to Reconsider Taiwan Stance Amid Rising Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, China’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Monday urging Japan to reconsider its stance on Taiwan and to halt what it termed as irresponsible political actions. The statement follows increasing unease among Japanese citizens regarding Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s remarks about Taiwan.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry also addressed the new U.S. defense strategy, expressing its belief that cooperation between Beijing and Washington would be mutually beneficial. The ministry indicated a willingness to work with Washington to improve bilateral relations.
“We will resolutely defend our sovereignty,” the statement emphasized.
In recent days, thousands of Japanese citizens have demonstrated in Tokyo, expressing their anger over Prime Minister Takaichi’s comments regarding Taiwan. There is growing concern that the Prime Minister’s pro-Western stance could escalate tensions and trigger a new arms race in East Asia.
The Prime Minister of Japan has warned China that an attack on Taiwan would jeopardize Japan’s existence and could potentially lead to military intervention by Tokyo.
China has demanded that the Japanese Prime Minister retract these statements and has advised its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan. This decision has led to a significant number of travel cancellations by Chinese citizens, which could inflict substantial economic damage on Japan.
