Honduras Issues Arrest Warrant for Ex-President Hernández After Trump Pardon

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Honduran Attorney General Johel Antonio Zelaya announced via social media platform X that he has instructed the Criminal Investigation Technical Agency and Interpol to execute an international arrest warrant for former President Juan Orlando Hernández.
The Honduran prosecution’s pursuit of Hernández comes after a pardon issued by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Hernández’s wife has stated that he is currently residing in a “safe location” in the United States due to security concerns and will not be returning to Honduras for the time being.
Hernández was extradited to the United States in 2022 on charges of large-scale drug trafficking and subsequently sentenced to 45 years in prison. In Honduras, the legal case against Hernández pertains to the embezzlement of public funds. In 2023, he and several former officials were accused of involvement in the misappropriation of over $12 million in government resources for his election campaign.
