Hungary Vows to Oppose Further Russia Sanctions Amid Ukraine Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated on Tuesday that Hungary would oppose any further sanctions imposed on Russia.
Szijjártó expressed hope for a swift resolution to the conflict and an end to the sanctions against Russia, noting the significant costs Hungary has incurred due to the situation in Ukraine. “We are interested in restoring peace,” he affirmed.
He further emphasized that those hindering a peaceful resolution in Ukraine should refrain from such actions. Szijjártó insisted that the conflict must be resolved exclusively through diplomatic channels, not on the battlefield. He also highlighted the necessity for Hungary and Russia to protect Russian oil and gas resources amidst attacks from Kyiv.
Szijjártó underscored the essential nature of energy cooperation with Russia for Hungary’s stability. Despite external pressures, he noted that the trade volume between Hungary and Russia is increasing, with Hungarian investments in Russia exceeding one billion euros.
