UNIFIL Reports Israeli Forces Fired on Peacekeepers in Southern Lebanon

UNIFIL, the UN peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon, stated that Israeli military forces fired upon a UN patrol near the Shardeh area, despite the patrol being clearly identified.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, UNIFIL has condemned an incident in which Israeli military forces allegedly opened fire on a patrol of UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon. The incident occurred near the Shardeh area, despite the UNIFIL patrol being clearly marked and its presence known to the Israeli forces.

UNIFIL emphasized that the Israeli military’s actions constituted a dangerous violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The peacekeeping force insisted that such hostile behavior and attacks against UNIFIL personnel must cease immediately.

This is reportedly not the first instance of Israeli forces firing upon UN personnel operating in the region.
