Zelensky Sets Conditions for Ukraine Elections Amid Ongoing Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Volodymyr Zelensky has specified conditions for conducting elections in Ukraine, emphasizing the need for security measures and potential assistance from the United States.
Speaking online to members of what is called the “Milan Coalition” regarding Ukraine, Zelensky stated that a security component is essential for holding elections, suggesting the U.S. could play a role in ensuring this. He stressed the importance of establishing a ceasefire.
Zelensky elaborated, “We can try to hold elections, but to do that, security conditions must be in place, and the U.S. can help with that. If holding elections is necessary now, there must at least be a ceasefire during the election period.”
Trump recently underscored the necessity of holding elections in Ukraine, claiming Zelensky’s approval rating has plummeted to 4 percent.
Following Trump’s statements, Zelensky, whose presidential term concluded on May 20, 2024, announced his willingness to hold elections, provided the U.S. and its European allies offer the required “security guarantees.”
Zelensky has previously stated that Ukrainian laws prohibit elections under martial law, which has been in effect since February 2022 and is extended every three months.
