US Considers Sanctions on UNRWA Amid ‘Terrorism’ Concerns

The United States government is reportedly evaluating potential sanctions related to ‘terrorism’ against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), raising legal and humanitarian concerns within the State Department.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the US government is considering sanctions on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) over alleged links to ‘terrorism’. This move has triggered legal and humanitarian anxieties within the State Department.

Sources familiar with the matter indicate that discussions are at an advanced stage, though no final decision has been made. The agency provides essential services, including education, healthcare, social assistance, and shelter, to millions of Palestinians across Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.

These deliberations occur amid increased pressure from the Israeli regime, which alleges the involvement of some UNRWA employees in the ‘Al-Aqsa Storm’ operation on October 7, 2023. UNRWA has refuted these claims, asserting its commitment to impartiality.

Palestinians’ reliance on UNRWA’s services has grown significantly following two years of a devastating war by Israel against Gaza, which began in October 2023. Actions against the agency could place millions of civilians in the region at severe risk.

Since the start of the war on October 7, 2023, occupying forces, backed by the United States and Europe, have allegedly perpetrated widespread killings, destruction, displacement, and detentions in Gaza, disregarding orders from the International Court to cease these activities.

Palestinian figures indicate that the conflict has resulted in over 241,000 casualties, the majority being women and children. More than 11,000 individuals remain missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Famine conditions have also claimed numerous lives, particularly among children.
