Lebanese MP: Israel Seeks to Disarm Lebanon Under Pretense of Resistance

A Lebanese parliamentarian, Hussein Al-Hajj Hassan, has criticized recent remarks by the country’s foreign minister regarding Hezbollah’s weapons, accusing Israel of using the issue as a pretext to weaken Lebanon.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hussein Al-Hajj Hassan, a representative of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc in the Lebanese Parliament, has condemned the recent stances taken by Lebanon’s Foreign Minister concerning the weapons held by the resistance movement. Al-Hajj Hassan stated that the Foreign Minister’s comments mirrored the position of the Lebanese Forces party rather than representing the official stance of the Lebanese government.

During an interview, Al-Hajj Hassan told Al Jazeera that the Foreign Minister’s words appeared to justify ongoing Israeli aggression. He argued that the Foreign Minister should not endorse narratives that excuse Israeli attacks and should instead prioritize the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the return of Lebanese prisoners before addressing the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons.

He emphasized that the resistance’s weapons were instrumental in liberating southern Lebanon in 2000. Al-Hajj Hassan asserted that it is the Zionist enemy that has failed to adhere to agreements and continues to violate Lebanese sovereignty, adding that Lebanon has been committed to the ceasefire, while the enemy repeatedly violates it.

The Lebanese MP also noted that the American and Israeli sides would continue to demand more concessions from Lebanon, regardless of any concessions already made. He claimed that Israel is using the issue of weapons as an excuse to disarm Lebanon without providing any guarantees in return.
