UAE-Backed Forces Deny Retreat from Yemen’s Hadramaut Province

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a source within Yemen’s Southern Transitional Council has denied reports concerning the withdrawal of its forces from the Hadramaut province. The denial follows reports of alleged preparations for the departure of these forces.
The unnamed source stated that there are no discussions underway regarding the military presence of the Southern Council’s forces in the Hadramaut and al-Mahrah provinces.
On December 3, 2024, forces affiliated with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council seized control of al-Mahrah province, located in eastern Yemen near the border with Oman. Military commanders aligned with the self-proclaimed Yemeni government reportedly handed over control of the province to these elements without resistance.
Al-Mahrah, the second-largest province in Yemen after Hadramaut, features two border crossings with Oman.
This event occurred hours after local officials and tribal leaders in Hadramaut announced an agreement mediated by Saudi Arabia.
