According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the number of injured in a shooting at Brown University has risen to 11. Providence Mayor Brett Smiley confirmed the updated figure on Saturday.
The New York Times reports that hundreds of police officers are currently searching the streets of Rhode Island for the shooter.
Earlier, CNN reported that a suspect was in custody, citing a university statement. However, Brown University later clarified in a separate statement that no suspects have been apprehended and urged students to remain in secure locations.
Brown University, a private research university, was founded in 1764.
President Donald Trump addressed the shooting on his Truth Social account, stating he was following the situation at Brown University in Rhode Island.
Initially, Trump claimed a suspect had been apprehended and that federal police were on the scene. He later revised his statement, confirming that the suspected shooter was not in custody.
