Trump Threatens Tariffs on Thailand and Cambodia Amid Ongoing Conflict

President Donald Trump has threatened Thailand and Cambodia with new tariffs amid ongoing conflict between the two nations, according to reports. Trump claims the tariffs are a tool to de-escalate the situation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, President Donald Trump told The Wall Street Journal that he threatened Thailand and Cambodia with new tariffs in an attempt to de-escalate tensions.

“Just 10 minutes before you came, I used tariffs to contain a new conflict that has arisen between Thailand and Cambodia,” Trump reportedly stated.

He added that he told them that if the war continues, he would not only cancel the trade agreement but also impose tariffs on their countries. According to Trump, only he is capable of such actions.

Trump emphasized that tariffs are a crucial instrument in his administration’s foreign policy. He warned that if the Supreme Court were to declare some of his implemented tariffs illegal, it would be detrimental for Washington.

He asserted that, even in such a scenario, he would find the necessary legal basis to impose new tariffs.

Despite Trump’s claims of threatening tariffs to de-escalate the situation, the conflict in the region persists. The continued conflict between these two Asian countries represents a setback for the White House’s declared policy of “establishing peace from a position of strength”.
