US and Syrian Foreign Ministers Condemn Palmyra Attack in Phone Call

The Foreign Ministers of the United States and Syria, Marco Rubio and Asaad al-Shaibani, respectively, condemned a recent attack on joint forces in the Palmyra region during a telephone conversation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Syrian Foreign Ministry reported that the phone call between Asaad al-Shaibani and Marco Rubio addressed the Saturday attack targeting forces from both countries during a joint patrol in the Palmyra region, central Syria.

The Foreign Ministry of the Syrian government released a statement regarding the call, noting that al-Shaibani and Rubio affirmed that the Palmyra attack was an attempt to undermine relations between Syria and the United States.

According to the statement, al-Shaibani “expressed his regret over the attack, describing it as a new challenge in the fight against terrorism,” and conveyed the condolences of Ahmed al-Share to Donald Trump.

Marco Rubio also emphasized the United States’ continued support for the Syrian government in various fields, including counter-terrorism efforts.
