Australian PM Vows to Combat Anti-Semitism After Hanukkah Shooting

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has strongly condemned anti-Semitism and asserted the nation’s resilience in the face of violence after a shooting at a Jewish Hanukkah event.
“What occurred on Sunday was a malicious act reflecting terrorism and anti-Semitism,” the Prime Minister stated.
He characterized the day of the attack as a “dark day in our nation’s history,” while expressing confidence that Australia is stronger than the “cowards” who perpetrated the assault.
The attack targeted a Hanukkah celebration, a Jewish religious observance also known as the Festival of Lights, which typically spans eight days in November or December.
Hanukkah commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Seleucid Empire in the second century BCE. In Western countries with sizable Jewish communities, Hanukkah is often celebrated in public spaces like parks, squares, and beaches.
