Thailand Halts Fuel Shipments to Laos Amid Cambodia Border Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Thai army has announced a halt to fuel shipments to Laos through a border crossing, citing heightened border conflicts with Cambodia.
Military officials in Bangkok claim to possess intelligence indicating that fuel shipments transiting through Laos are being diverted to Cambodian military forces.
A spokesperson for the Thai Ministry of Defense stated that the decision aims to prevent the strengthening of Cambodia’s military capabilities, emphasizing that the action is not targeted at the government or people of Laos.
The Thai military is also considering imposing restrictions on the movement of Thai vessels in Cambodian waters.
Clashes between the two countries continue along the 817-kilometer land border. Official sources report that at least 38 people have been killed and over half a million displaced in the past eight days. The conflict has spread from forested areas near the Laos border to coastal provinces, described as unprecedented in scale and intensity.
Cambodia has accused Thailand of using drones, heavy artillery, and airstrikes. In response, Bangkok states that a complete cessation of military operations by Cambodia and an offer of a ceasefire are prerequisites for ending the conflict. International efforts, including mediation by the United States, have so far failed to de-escalate tensions.
The renewed clashes between Thailand and Cambodia follow earlier claims by Donald Trump, President of the United States, that he had brought an end to eight wars, including the conflict between these two nations.
The resumption of hostilities between Thailand and Cambodia highlights the hollowness of Trump’s claims of establishing peace through power projection.
