UAE-Backed Forces Launch Military Operation to Seize Abyan in Yemen

The Southern Transitional Council (STC), supported by the United Arab Emirates, has announced the start of a military operation named ‘Operation Decisiveness’ in Abyan, southern Yemen, aiming to seize control of the city.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) has initiated military operations to occupy Abyan in Yemen. The move follows the STC’s recent capture of significant territories in southern Yemen.

Forces from the Security Belt and its support units, along with units from the Abyan axis, are participating in “Operation Decisiveness,” according to reports.

Recently, the STC has seized control over vast areas in southern Yemen, including Mika 12 and the vicinity of the Al-Aqlah oil facilities in Shabwa, as well as strategically important regions in the central Yemeni city.

Since 2015, the UAE has controlled the port of Balhaf in Shabwa, Yemen’s sole gas export terminal. This control has halted Yemeni gas exports, which previously contributed $4 billion annually to the Yemeni government’s revenue. Over the past decade, Yemen is estimated to have lost approximately $40 billion due to the cessation of gas exports.

Military activities are also intensifying in eastern Yemeni cities. Mohammed al-Naqib, the official spokesman for the southern armed forces, announced the deployment of Hadramaut elite forces to Seiyun in Wadi Hadramaut to bolster military operations in the area.
