China Urges Japan to Reconsider Taiwan Stance Amid Rising Regional Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, China is pressing Japan to reverse its course on Taiwan, citing concerns over regional stability and historical lessons.
Fu Cong, China’s ambassador to the United Nations, addressed the Security Council, criticizing Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent remarks on Taiwan. He insisted that the Japanese Prime Minister should reconsider her position, particularly as the international community reflects on history and plans for the future.
The ambassador urged Japan’s leadership to draw lessons from the Second World War, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region. This plea follows China’s recent sanctions against Shikero Iwazaki, the former Chief of Staff of the Japanese army, for allegedly providing military assistance to Taiwan.
Concerns are reportedly growing among the Japanese populace that Prime Minister Takaichi’s pro-Western stance could trigger a new wave of military escalation and arms races in East Asia. Takaichi had previously warned China against any potential invasion of Taiwan, suggesting that such an action would threaten Japan’s existence and potentially lead to military intervention by Tokyo.
In response, China has demanded a retraction of these statements and has advised its citizens against traveling to Japan. This advisory has led to widespread cancellations of travel plans, potentially causing significant economic losses for Japan.
