Amer al-Fayez to Preside Over Inaugural Session of Iraqi Parliament

Amer al-Fayez, the oldest member of the Iraqi parliament and head of the ‘Decision’ coalition, is set to preside over the inaugural session of the sixth parliamentary term. The session is scheduled for December 29, following President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid’s announcement.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Amer al-Fayez, the oldest representative, will chair the first session of the sixth term of the Iraqi Parliament. As per the Iraqi constitution, the oldest member of parliament presides over the first session of the new parliament.

Political sources indicate that Amer al-Fayez, head of the ‘Decision’ coalition, will lead the opening session of the sixth Iraqi Parliament as the oldest candidate to reach the parliament.

These sources stated that after Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid announced December 29 as the date for the first session of the new parliament, Amer al-Fayez, as the oldest member of the assembly, will chair the inaugural session of the sixth parliament.

Amer al-Fayez was born in Basra in 1948.
