Pakistan’s Army Chief Faces Challenges Over Potential Troop Deployment to Gaza

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, is reportedly facing significant challenges as Washington seeks Islamabad’s assistance in deploying troops to Gaza, potentially leading to domestic backlash.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, is navigating a complex situation amid a request from Washington for Pakistani troop deployment to Gaza. This development poses substantial challenges for him.

Sources within the Pakistani military indicate that Field Marshal Munir is expected to visit Washington in the coming weeks for discussions with President Donald Trump. This marks his third visit in the last six months, with the primary focus likely being the potential deployment of forces to Gaza.

Reports suggest that President Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza includes deploying troops from Muslim countries to oversee the transition period and rebuild the region’s economy. However, numerous countries are expressing caution regarding this mission, particularly its aim to disarm resistance groups, fearing it could draw them into conflict and provoke domestic backlash from pro-Palestinian factions.

A refusal to send troops could anger President Trump, placing Pakistan under pressure due to its reliance on Washington for investment and security assistance. Conversely, deploying Pakistani forces to Gaza could ignite protests among Islamist parties within Pakistan.

Participation in such a mission could subject Field Marshal Munir to severe domestic criticism, with public opinion potentially viewing him as acting in service of Israel.
