Iraqi Sunni Political Groups to Convene Key Meeting on Parliament Speaker Candidacy

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Sunni National Political Council in Iraq is considering the nomination of two candidates for the post of Parliament Speaker. A final decision will be made through either political agreement or a vote within the council.
Firas al-Jarisi, a member of the Sunni “Al-Azm Coalition,” stated that the selection of the Parliament Speaker will be based not on the number of seats held, but on achieving consensus within the Sunni National Political Council, considering previously emphasized conditions and characteristics.
Al-Jarisi added that if an agreement is reached on more than one candidate, the decision will be made through constitutional mechanisms within the Iraqi Parliament via a voting process.
He emphasized that the National Political Council is scheduled to meet next week at the residence of Thabet al-Abbasi, head of the “Al-Hasm Coalition,” during which the names of the candidates for the Parliament Speaker position will be determined, potentially including two individuals. As of now, no candidate has been formally introduced by the National Political Council, and names circulating in some media outlets are speculative and do not represent final decisions.
Concurrently, Muhand Muhammad Zaidan, a member of the Al-Azm Coalition, announced that the upcoming meeting at the residence of Thabet al-Abbasi, the head of the Al-Hasm Coalition, aims to complete political consultations. The objective of these in-depth consultations is to reach a definitive agreement on the mechanism for selecting the Parliament Speaker.
