Gaza: 17 Dead, Including Children, as Severe Cold and Flooding Hit Refugee Camps

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a dire situation is unfolding in Gaza as heavy rains and flooding have claimed the lives of 17 residents, including four children. The fatalities are attributed to both the severe cold and the collapse of residential structures.
Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for Gaza’s civil defense, reported that over 17 residential buildings have completely collapsed since the onset of the heavy rains. Furthermore, more than 90 buildings are in a state of dangerous disrepair, posing an immediate threat to the lives of thousands of Palestinians.
Basal emphasized that over 90 accommodation centers have been flooded due to the heavy rains and subsequent flooding. The tents of citizens in various areas of Gaza have been damaged and submerged, leaving thousands of families without shelter.
The spokesperson noted that nearly 5,000 emergency calls have been received since the adverse weather conditions began. Thousands of families are now without shelter due to the inundation of their tents.
Basal has issued an urgent appeal to the international community for immediate assistance to the affected citizens, urging them to address the immediate humanitarian needs. He stressed the necessity of initiating reconstruction efforts and providing safe shelter to the residents of Gaza to ensure their safety and preserve their human dignity.
