European Parliament Approves Ban on Russian Gas Imports by 2027

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the European Parliament has officially endorsed the EU’s initiative to eliminate gas imports from Russia by the fall of 2027. This decision effectively clears the previous legal hurdle that stood in the way of enacting the ban.
European lawmakers voted overwhelmingly in favor of the plan, with 500 votes for, 120 against, and 32 abstentions, underscoring broad support for reducing energy dependence on Moscow.
The ban still requires formal approval from EU ministers, who are expected to convene early next year to discuss the matter. Experts anticipate that the agreement will be ratified without significant alterations.
The legislation is structured to secure approval from a decisive majority of member states. This design enables the EU to overcome potential opposition from countries such as Hungary and Slovakia, which have expressed a desire to maintain close ties with Russia.
