Trump Administration Approves $11 Billion Arms Sale to Taiwan

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. government is proceeding with a significant arms sale to Taiwan. The deal, valued at $11.1 billion, marks the largest arms package ever between the United States and Taiwan.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense confirmed the proposed sale includes eight categories of weaponry. The package features HIMARS missile systems, artillery, anti-armor missiles, drones, and components for existing military equipment.
A statement from the Ministry of Defense asserted that the United States continues to assist Taiwan in maintaining sufficient defense capabilities and developing effective deterrent power. This support aims to bolster Taiwan’s asymmetric warfare capabilities, which are vital for maintaining regional peace and stability.
The Ministry of Defense added that the arms package is currently undergoing review by the U.S. Congress. Congress retains the option to halt or modify the sale, although it enjoys broad, cross-party support in Taiwan.
Taiwan, encouraged by the United States, is restructuring its armed forces to prioritize asymmetric warfare. This approach focuses on deploying mobile, smaller, cost-effective yet impactful weapons systems such as drones.
Neither the U.S. State Department nor the Chinese Foreign Ministry have responded to requests for comment on the matter.
