Mexico Urges UN Action to Prevent Bloodshed in Venezuela Amid Rising US Tensions

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has called on the United Nations to intervene in Venezuela to prevent potential bloodshed, citing increased tensions in the region exacerbated by the United States. Sheinbaum emphasized Mexico’s opposition to foreign intervention in Venezuelan affairs and offered Mexico as a host for negotiations between Venezuela and the United States.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has urged the United Nations to play a more active role in preventing bloodshed in Venezuela. Sheinbaum voiced her concerns during a press conference, emphasizing Mexico‘s firm stance against any form of foreign intervention in Venezuela.

Sheinbaum stated, “I ask the United Nations to play its role. The United Nations has not played a role in this regard so far. It must play its role to prevent any bloodshed.” She also expressed support for dialogue and de-escalation between Venezuela and the United States, offering Mexico as a potential venue for negotiations or meetings between the two nations.

“The whole world must ensure that there is no intervention and that there is a peaceful solution,” she added. This appeal comes in response to heightened tensions between the United States and Venezuela, particularly concerning US policies and accusations against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his administration.

Venezuelan Vice President and Minister of Oil, Delcy Rodríguez, recently condemned statements made by Donald Trump, accusing him of revealing Washington’s “true intentions” to seize Venezuela’s oil, land, and minerals. Rodríguez asserted that Trump’s actions in blockading Venezuela violate international law, free trade, and freedom of navigation. She characterized Trump’s stance as presumptuous, claiming he believes Venezuela’s resources belong to him and that he seeks to plunder the country’s wealth through a naval blockade.

Rodríguez emphasized that Caracas has consistently been targeted by Washington’s hegemonic ambitions, declaring, “Venezuela will never again be a colony of any empire or foreign power.” The United States, particularly during Donald Trump’s presidency, has accused Nicolás Maduro and senior Venezuelan officials of “drug trafficking” and other crimes, seeking to undermine the legitimacy of the Venezuelan government and create legal and political grounds for regime change.

Washington has used these allegations as justification for increased sanctions, asset seizures, and heightened international pressure on Venezuela, actions the Maduro government has denounced as politically motivated and baseless.
