Russia Urges US to Avoid Escalating Tensions in Venezuela

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement on Thursday expressing concern over escalating tensions in Venezuela and urging the United States to exercise restraint.
The statement emphasized Moscow’s support for Maduro’s government, stating, “We support Maduro’s approach to protecting the interests and sovereignty of Venezuela.” Russia has consistently advocated for normalized dialogue between the United States and Venezuela to de-escalate tensions.
During Donald Trump’s presidency, the U.S. government accused Nicolas Maduro and other senior Venezuelan officials of drug trafficking and other crimes, moves seen as attempts to undermine the legitimacy of the Caracas government and create legal and political grounds for its overthrow.
Washington has used these allegations to justify increased sanctions, asset freezes, and international pressure on Venezuela. Maduro’s government has consistently dismissed these accusations as politically motivated and baseless.
