European Union Calls for Hamas Disarmament, Backs Lebanese Government’s Arms Control

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, European leaders convened a summit, culminating in a statement that reaffirmed support for the UN Security Council’s initiative to create a “Peace Council” and deploy a temporary international force in Gaza.
The statement underscored the imperative of permanently disarming Hamas and all non-governmental armed factions operating within Gaza.
The European Union expressed its willingness to bolster the observer mission in Rafah and provide training for Palestinian police forces.
European leaders also called for the immediate, safe, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza through all crossings, including the maritime route from Cyprus. Simultaneously, they strongly condemned the escalating violence perpetrated by Zionist settlers and urged the Zionist regime to cease settlement expansion.
The statement emphasized the necessity of de-escalating tensions in the region, maintaining stability in Lebanon, and supporting the Lebanese government’s endeavors to confine weapons within official state institutions.
The European summit also denounced recent attacks targeting UNIFIL forces and demanded comprehensive investigations into these incidents.
Regarding Syria, European leaders voiced support for a peaceful and inclusive political transition, while expressing concerns about ongoing foreign interference in the country’s political processes.
In recent months, the European Union, aligning with the United States, has consistently emphasized the need to reform the security architecture in Gaza and disarm Palestinian resistance groups.
These pronouncements come amid widespread criticism from human rights organizations regarding the international community’s failure to curb Zionist regime aggressions and halt the Gaza conflict.
