Spain Condemns US Sanctions Against International Criminal Court

Spain’s Foreign Ministry has strongly criticized the United States’ sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling the move an attack on international justice and the court’s independence. Madrid urges respect for international law and an end to political pressure on judicial bodies.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Spain has voiced strong opposition to the United States’ sanctions targeting the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Spanish Foreign Ministry characterized the U.S. action as a blatant assault on the independence and impartiality of the international judicial body.

The ministry’s statement emphasized that the sanctions imposed by Washington significantly undermine the ICC’s ability to carry out its legal mandates. Madrid called for upholding international legal mechanisms and refraining from exerting political pressure on independent judicial institutions.

The U.S. State Department announced sanctions on two ICC judges, citing what it described as the “unlawful targeting of Israel.” Senator Marco Rubio echoed this sentiment, alleging that the ICC continues to engage in politically motivated activities against Israel, setting a dangerous precedent for all nations.

Rubio further asserted that the U.S. will not tolerate the ICC’s abuse of its position and its wrongful targeting of Americans and Israelis. This action by the U.S. follows increased scrutiny by the ICC of alleged war crimes, including those committed by the Zionist regime in Palestine.

The ICC has responded, firmly rejecting and condemning the new U.S. sanctions against its judges. The sanctions have drawn widespread condemnation from European countries and human rights organizations, with critics arguing that Washington is attempting to shield its allies from accountability for international crimes.
