African Union Condemns Rapid Support Forces’ Attacks in Sudan

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the African Union has condemned the attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan in the strongest terms. The AU’s envoy for Sudan stated that the organized attacks targeted civilians and resulted in the destruction of civilian infrastructure.
The envoy further emphasized that there is no place for any parallel institutions within Sudan and stressed the importance of a peaceful political resolution through an inclusive national dialogue. The African Union insists on an inclusive, national dialogue to resolve the ongoing crisis.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been embroiled in a bloody conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, leading to millions of deaths and displacements. The clashes have caused a collapse of public services, widespread infrastructure damage, and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. https://media.mehrnews.com/d/2024/01/29/4/4640538.jpg?ts=1706528275630
Mohammad Hamdan Daglo, also known as Hemedti, commands the Rapid Support Forces and plays a central role in the recent conflicts in Sudan. He was previously an influential figure in Sudan’s power structure, but his disagreements with the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, sparked a civil war and exacerbated the political and security crisis in the country.
The international community and regional bodies have repeatedly warned against targeting civilians. The African Union has been mediating to initiate a political process in Sudan. However, deep divisions between the conflicting parties have prevented a lasting ceasefire. Emphasis on inclusive national dialogue is part of regional initiatives aimed at preventing the collapse of Sudan’s governance structure.
