Russia Annuls Military Treaties with European Nations Amid Rising Tensions

The Russian Defense Ministry announced the annulment of international treaties with several European countries, citing a governmental directive. This decision impacts military cooperation agreements made in the 1990s with nations including the UK and Poland, reflecting escalating tensions between Moscow and the West.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia is terminating several military treaties with European countries, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Defense.

The decision, based on a government order, invalidates mutual military understandings with the UK, bilateral cooperation agreements with Poland, and other treaties established in the 1990s.

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Russia entered into numerous treaties with European nations during the 1990s aimed at fostering trust and military cooperation. However, growing tensions between Moscow and the West, particularly since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine, have prompted Russia to reassess these agreements.

Moscow believes that the actions of European countries and NATO in recent years are inconsistent with previous security commitments, posing a threat to its national security. The revocation of these treaties is viewed as part of Russia’s strategy to reduce military cooperation with the West and redefine its security relationships.
