Israeli Strike on Gaza School Sheltering Displaced People Kills 5, Injures 5

An Israeli strike on a school housing displaced people in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of eastern Gaza City resulted in the deaths of five Palestinians, including a woman, and injuries to five others, according to local sources. The attack, which occurred Friday evening, has drawn condemnation for violating international humanitarian law.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, an Israeli strike on a school housing displaced people in the Al-Tuffah neighborhood of eastern Gaza City resulted in the deaths of five Palestinians, including a woman, and injuries to five others. The condition of three of the injured is reported to be critical.

Witnesses told Turkey’s Anatoli News Agency that an Israeli tank entered the Al-Tuffah neighborhood and fired several shells after approaching the school, causing numerous civilian casualties. Rescue and civil defense teams were allegedly prevented from accessing the site for over two hours, delaying the evacuation of victims. Witnesses reported that the attack coincided with a wedding celebration at the school, which exacerbated the casualties. https://media.mehrnews.com/**/**….jpg?ts=1766144715760

Gaza’s civil defense forces stated that they managed to recover the bodies of five martyrs, including several children, from the targeted school after coordinating with the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs.

The civil defense center in Gaza emphasized that targeting schools and shelters for displaced civilians constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law. They called on the international community and international institutions to fulfill their immediate responsibility to protect civilians and shelter centers.

The Israeli military claimed its forces were conducting an operation in the “yellow line” area north of Gaza and fired at “suspicious” individuals in buildings west of the line. The military stated that it regretted harm to civilians and is investigating the incident. The area targeted was among those from which Israeli forces had previously withdrawn following a ceasefire agreement. That agreement, in effect since October 10, has allegedly been violated by Tel Aviv over 738 times, resulting in the deaths of approximately 400 Palestinians.

According to medical sources, the two-year Israeli war on Gaza, which began in October 2023 and continued with unlimited U.S. support, has resulted in over 70,000 deaths and 171,000 injuries, the majority of whom are women and children.
