Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan Sign Secret Agreement Bypassing Baghdad

A confidential agreement between Turkey and Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government, signed without Baghdad’s knowledge, allows Turkish military expansion and economic support for oil smuggling, according to Iraqi officials.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a secret agreement between Turkey and Iraq’s Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has been revealed, bypassing the central government in Baghdad. Mohammad al-Dari, a member of Iraq’s Anbar Coalition, confirmed the deal, stating it permits Turkey to establish new military bases within Iraqi territory.

The agreement reportedly ensures no confrontation with Turkish forces during operations in northern Iraq and mandates support for them if issues arise. Additionally, the KRG will receive economic assistance, while the smuggling of Iraqi oil from northern provinces to Turkey will continue unchecked.

Turkey has also pledged covert security support to the Barzani-led KRG government in exchange for the agreement. The deal has raised concerns over Iraq’s sovereignty and regional stability.
