A Pakistani court has sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-2 case involving undisclosed jewelry gifts from Saudi Arabia. Both were also fined 16.4 million rupees.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a special court in Pakistan has sentenced Imran Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years in prison in the Toshakhana-2 case. The verdict was delivered by Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand during a hearing at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Khan is currently imprisoned.

The case centers on a set of expensive Bulgari jewelry gifted to Khan by the Saudi Crown Prince during an official visit in May 2021. Prosecutors alleged that Khan retained the jewelry set, valued at approximately 80 million rupees, after paying only 2.9 million rupees.

Khan received a 10-year sentence under Sections 34 and 409 of Pakistan’s Penal Code for hard labor, plus an additional 7 years under Section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act for criminal misconduct by public officials. Bushra Bibi received an identical 17-year sentence. Both were ordered to pay a fine of 16.4 million rupees, with non-payment carrying additional jail time.
