Zelenskyy Says Elections Impossible Under Current Security Conditions, EU Funding Strengthens Ukraine’s Position

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared on Saturday that holding elections remains impossible under the country’s present security circumstances. He emphasized that Russia has no right to interfere in Ukraine‘s electoral process while revealing discussions with U.S. counterparts about security guarantees for future voting.
The remarks came as Zelenskyy welcomed the European Union’s decision to provide Ukraine with 90 billion euros in financial support for 2024-2027, approved during Friday’s EU summit in Brussels. European Council President Antonio Costa confirmed the agreement on X (formerly Twitter), noting the simultaneous six-month extension of sanctions against Russia.
Zelenskyy referenced last week’s EU agreement for an interest-free loan to Kyiv but noted leaders failed to reach consensus on using frozen Russian assets to fund the package. The Ukrainian president stressed his administration’s commitment to conducting elections only with full security assurances, acknowledging no current peace agreement exists with Russia.
