Kremlin Criticizes Zelensky’s Remarks on Elections and Putin’s Alleged Interference

The Kremlin has dismissed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s contradictory statements about holding elections, accusing him of opposing Russian interference while seeking U.S. assistance.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent remarks regarding elections in Ukraine as contradictory. Peskov stated that while Zelensky claims he will not allow Russian President Vladimir Putin to interfere in Ukraine’s elections, he simultaneously seeks American assistance in organizing them.

Peskov added, ‘This means Zelensky has no objection to American interference but opposes Russian involvement. This indicates a certain level of confusion.’

Zelensky’s presidential term officially ended on May 20, 2024, but Kyiv has refrained from holding elections, citing the ongoing martial law in the country.

Russian President Vladimir Putin recently noted that between five to ten million Ukrainian citizens currently reside in Russia and should be allowed to vote if elections are held in Ukraine.
