Nearly One Million Displaced as Thailand-Cambodia Border Conflict Escalates

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Cambodia’s Interior Ministry reported that more than 518,000 citizens have been displaced following two weeks of intensified border clashes with Thailand. The ministry highlighted that civilians, including women and children, evacuated schools and residences to escape aerial bombardments and artillery fire from Thai F-16 fighter jets.
AFP reported approximately 400,000 Thai nationals have also become displaced due to the conflict. Both nations accuse each other of initiating hostilities and targeting civilians. Diplomatic interventions by the U.S., China, and Malaysia to broker a ceasefire have proven unsuccessful.
The border warfare—marked by tank deployments, drone strikes, and heavy artillery—has claimed at least 19 Cambodian and 22 Thai lives. ASEAN foreign ministers will convene in Kuala Lumpur on Monday to address the crisis.
