Hezbollah Warns of Dangerous Deviation in Lebanon-Israel Negotiations

Hezbollah’s senior official Ali Fayyad has warned that Lebanon’s negotiations with Israel, led by a civilian, risk deviating from UN Resolution 1701, potentially leading to catastrophic consequences.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ali Fayyad, a representative of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, has raised alarms over Lebanon’s engagement in negotiations with the Zionist regime under a civilian leadership. He emphasized that this path is fraught with dangers and warnings, sparking significant concerns.

Fayyad highlighted that the positions of the U.S. and the Zionist regime focus on economic and military cooperation between Lebanon and the Zionist enemy, as well as exploring ways to advance economic interactions and political-security ties.

The senior Hezbollah member further stated that transforming the Mechanism Committee into a framework for discussing these issues represents a dangerous deviation from UN Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire declaration of November 27, 2024. He warned that this shift pushes Lebanon toward a perilous slope with unavoidable disastrous outcomes, framing the negotiations within the dictates and demands of the Zionists.

Fayyad reiterated warnings against expanding the scope of the Mechanism Committee’s discussions beyond the withdrawal of Zionist forces from occupied positions, cessation of hostile actions, and the release of Lebanese prisoners to include unrelated economic or political matters.

He stressed that unconditional return of residents to border villages, the Lebanese government’s sovereignty over all its territory, the deployment of the Lebanese army in various regions—especially border areas—and Lebanon’s right to self-defense must remain fixed principles in these talks.

Fayyad concluded that Lebanon’s submission to negotiations amid daily Zionist regime assassinations and airstrikes represents a fatal weakness in the process.
