Yemen’s Resigned Government Faces Deepening Rift as Ministers Join Southern Transitional Council in Aden

Several ministers from Yemen’s resigned government have defected to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council in Aden, further fracturing the Saudi-supported administration amid escalating regional tensions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, key ministers from Yemen’s resigned government have officially aligned with the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC), marking a significant shift in the country’s political landscape. Abdulnasser Al-Wali, Minister of Civil Service and Insurance, and Mohammed Saeed Al-Zaouri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, issued separate statements declaring their support for the STC, which now controls political and administrative affairs in Aden.

Political sources in Yemen indicate these defections, supported by Saudi Arabia, signal the effective collapse of Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed’s government and its Riyadh-aligned leadership council. The STC, formed in 2017 with direct Emirati support, has maintained fundamental disagreements with the Saudi-backed administration, resulting in repeated armed clashes across southern Yemen.

The power shift occurs as Saudi Arabia reduces its direct involvement in Yemen’s conflict, allowing the STC to emerge as the dominant force in southern Yemen. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council faces mounting legitimacy crises and internal divisions, casting uncertainty over the country’s political future and the balance of power among former Saudi coalition allies.
