130 Abducted Students and Staff Freed in Nigeria

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Nigerian police have announced the release of 130 individuals, including students and staff, who were abducted during an armed attack on a Catholic school in Niger State. The remaining abducted students have now been freed, according to Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger State Police.
Armed assailants stormed St. Mary’s Catholic School in the Babiri residential area on November 21, kidnapping at least 303 students and 12 teachers. Authorities reported that 50 individuals managed to escape shortly after the attack, while another 100 students were released earlier this month.
Abiodun stated that details regarding the status of 35 students and several teachers still missing would be released later. Northern Nigeria has seen a surge in attacks by armed groups targeting schools for ransom in recent years, raising concerns about student safety and the continuity of education.
