U.S. Embassy in Moscow Confirms No Bilateral Talks with Russia Scheduled

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. Embassy in Moscow clarified in a note to the Russian newspaper Izvestia that there are currently no plans for a new meeting between Russia and the United States to address bilateral relations. The embassy emphasized that no negotiations under the framework of bilateral relations are on the agenda at this time. However, American diplomats told Izvestia that Washington considers bilateral talks a constructive platform for improving the conditions of diplomatic missions in both countries. Earlier, discussions aimed at normalizing the working conditions of the Russian and U.S. embassies and exploring ways to reduce tensions were held in Istanbul on February 27 and April 10. The Russian delegation in the first and second rounds of these consultations was led by Alexander Darchiev, Russia’s current ambassador to Washington, while the U.S. team was headed by Sonata Coulter, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. Diplomatic relations between Russia and the U.S. deteriorated significantly during the presidency of Joe Biden, with both sides expelling each other’s envoys and labeling them as undesirable.
