China Protests Japanese Official’s Visit to Taiwan, Calls for Policy Reversal

China has formally protested a senior Japanese official’s visit to Taiwan, urging Tokyo to reconsider its stance amid rising regional tensions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, China has lodged a strong protest with Japan over the visit of a senior Liberal Democratic Party official to Taiwan. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated that Beijing has formally conveyed its objections to Tokyo, demanding a reversal of this approach.

Taiwan’s leader Lai Ching-te hosted Koichi Hagiuda, a high-ranking member of Japan’s ruling party, on Monday. The visit has sparked concerns among Japanese citizens that Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s pro-West policies could escalate military tensions and arms races in East Asia.

This diplomatic row follows Prime Minister Takaichi’s remarks over a month ago warning that an attack on Taiwan would threaten Japan’s existence and could lead to military intervention. China has demanded a retraction of these statements and advised its citizens against traveling to Japan, resulting in widespread cancellations that may cause significant economic damage to Japan.
