EU Extends Economic Sanctions Against Russia for Another Six Months

The European Union has prolonged its economic sanctions on Russia for an additional six months, citing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with measures now set to remain in place until July 31, 2026.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Council of the European Union announced on Monday the extension of economic sanctions against Russia for another six months, maintaining restrictions until July 31, 2026. The decision, attributed to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine, continues measures first imposed in 2014 and significantly expanded following Russia’s 2022 invasion.

The sanctions target key sectors of the Russian economy, including trade, finance, energy, technology, dual-use goods, industry, transport, and luxury items. They also encompass bans on the import and transfer of seaborne crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia, the exclusion of several Russian banks from the SWIFT financial system, and the suspension of broadcasting licenses for Kremlin-backed media outlets within the EU.

A statement from the Council asserted that as long as Russia’s actions continue to violate international law, it remains appropriate for all EU measures to stay in effect, with the possibility of additional actions if necessary.
