Russia Denies Plans to Attack EU and NATO, Warns of Military Risks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov declared on Monday that Russia does not plan to attack European Union or NATO member states and is prepared to formally document this stance. However, he emphasized that significant risks of military conflict between Russia and NATO remain due to what he described as reckless and hostile actions by European countries.
Ryabkov noted that Russia continues to exercise maximum restraint in response to NATO’s provocative measures but has issued clear warning signals to the opposing side. He also stated that Russia still has serious unanswered questions for the United States regarding the Ukraine crisis.
The deputy foreign minister warned that European efforts to prevent the normalization of relations between Russia and the U.S. are exacerbating tensions. He added that the success of ongoing Russia-U.S. talks is neither guaranteed nor predetermined, and any reduction in tensions depends on Washington considering Moscow’s security interests.
Ryabkov further cautioned that Russia would respond reciprocally if the U.S. resumes nuclear weapons testing. Russia is preparing for all possible scenarios following the expiration of the START treaty, though he expressed hope that the worst-case scenarios could be avoided.
