Pentagon Report Claims China Has Deployed Over 100 Ballistic Missiles in New Silos

A Pentagon draft report reveals China has likely deployed more than 100 intercontinental ballistic missiles in new silos and shows no interest in arms control talks, according to Reuters.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a draft Pentagon report indicates that Beijing has potentially stationed over 100 solid-fueled DF-31 intercontinental ballistic missiles in newly constructed silos near China‘s border with Mongolia. The report, cited by Reuters, asserts that China is expanding and modernizing its nuclear arsenal faster than any other nuclear power.

Chinese officials dismissed the allegations as an attempt to ‘smear and accuse China while deliberately misleading the international community.’ The report also highlights Beijing’s apparent disinterest in engaging in nuclear disarmament discussions with the U.S. and Russia.

Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump mentioned the possibility of working on a nuclear disarmament plan involving China and Russia. However, the Pentagon’s assessment suggests no enthusiasm from Beijing for such negotiations or broader arms control talks.

Neither the Pentagon nor the Chinese Embassy in Washington has responded to requests for comment on the report.
