Iraqi Shiite Coordination Framework Reaches Preliminary Agreement on Prime Minister Candidate

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraq‘s Shiite Coordination Framework has reached an initial agreement on a specific candidate for the next prime minister, as confirmed by former MP Abbas Sarout. Sarout emphasized that while consensus exists on a figure to lead the next phase, the path ahead remains fraught with challenges due to Iraq’s shifting regional and international landscape and internal crises.
Sarout stated that the next prime minister must demonstrate high flexibility in crisis management, particularly regarding financial deficits and external pressures. The candidate will need to navigate Iraq through its current sensitive phase, ensuring stability amid complex issues.
Following the election of Iraq’s parliament speaker and president, the president will task the agreed candidate with forming a cabinet. The Coordination Framework held a meeting on Monday to discuss the selection process, reviewing constitutional requirements and political pathways, according to a source familiar with the talks.
The meeting, held at the office of Hamam Hamoudi, also addressed Iraq’s general situation and recent regional developments impacting the country. These discussions come as Iraqi political forces work to finalize appointments for the three presidencies and form a new government, with the first session of the new parliament scheduled for December 29 at the president’s request.
