European Commission President Condemns Trump’s Ambitions Over Greenland

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, has publicly criticized the Trump administration’s strategic interest in Greenland, reaffirming the EU’s commitment to Arctic security and territorial sovereignty.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, issued a statement on social media platform X, condemning the Trump administration’s ambitions over Greenland. She emphasized that Arctic security remains a top priority for the European Union, which seeks cooperation with allies and partners on the matter.

Von der Leyen stated, ‘Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law. These principles are essential not only for the EU but for countries worldwide.’ She further expressed full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Jeff Landry, Governor of Louisiana, as a special envoy to Greenland, describing the island as strategically vital and rich in mineral resources. Trump previously advocated for U.S. military control over Greenland, citing its importance to national security.

Governor Landry, in a post on X, expressed his honor to serve voluntarily in this role and to make Greenland part of U.S. territory, asserting that this would not affect his duties as Louisiana’s governor.
