Poland and Lithuania Collaborate to Strengthen Borders with Russia and Belarus

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lithuania’s Deputy Minister of National Defense, Bronius Biliauskas, announced that Poland is prepared to collaborate on enhancing military infrastructure in the Suwałki Gap. This narrow strip of land between Poland and Lithuania separates Belarus from Russia’s Kaliningrad region.
Biliauskas stated that Poland is evaluating the possibility of establishing a military training area near the Suwałki Gap, a facility that would be unique in Europe. Further updates on the project’s progress are expected within the next month.
The deputy minister added that defense ministries from both countries will hold a meeting in January to discuss the initiative in detail. He also noted that Lithuania’s Defense Council decided on December 15 to construct a military training ground in the Suwałki Gap region.
The Suwałki Gap has gained increasing strategic and military significance since Poland and Baltic states joined NATO, serving as a critical corridor between Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave and its ally Belarus.
