Israeli Parliament Permanently Shuts Down Al Jazeera Office in Occupied Jerusalem

The Israeli Knesset has converted a temporary emergency order to close Al Jazeera’s office in occupied Jerusalem into a permanent law, solidifying ongoing restrictions on the network’s operations in the region.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Israeli Knesset has permanently enshrined the closure of Al Jazeera’s office in occupied Jerusalem, transforming what was initially a temporary emergency measure into enduring legislation. The move grants legal permanence to restrictions on the network’s activities in the city, removing any time-bound limitations.

The decision follows a military order issued on September 22, 2024, which banned Al Jazeera’s operations for 45 days. During the enforcement of this order, Israeli forces raided the network’s Ramallah office, detonating explosives at the entrance before seizing documents and equipment and halting broadcasts. This attack occurred four months after the initial shutdown of Al Jazeera’s Jerusalem bureau.
