Macron Rejects Trump’s Ambitions Over Greenland, Affirms Support for Danish Sovereignty

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron has firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statements regarding Greenland, emphasizing the island’s belonging to its people. Macron, during his official visit to Denmark on Tuesday, reaffirmed France’s staunch support for Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity over Greenland.
Macron stated, ‘Greenland belongs to its people,’ directly countering Trump’s assertion that the U.S. has a national security interest in the autonomous Danish territory. Trump had earlier claimed that America ‘needs Greenland’ due to strategic concerns, sparking international reactions.
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, also weighed in on the matter via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday. She underscored the Arctic’s security as a top priority for the European Union and expressed full solidarity with Denmark and Greenland. Von der Leyen highlighted that territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law, essential not only for the EU but for nations worldwide.
