Macron Rejects Trump’s Ambitions Over Greenland, Affirms Support for Danish Sovereignty

French President Emmanuel Macron dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump’s claims over Greenland, stating it belongs to its people, while European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized Arctic security as a priority.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron, during his visit to Denmark on Tuesday, firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s stance on acquiring Greenland. Macron asserted, ‘Greenland belongs to its people,’ and reiterated France’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Denmark and Greenland.

Trump had earlier claimed that the U.S. needed Greenland for national security reasons. Meanwhile, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen addressed the issue on social media platform X, stating, ‘Arctic security remains a top priority for the European Union, and we seek cooperation with allies and partners in this regard.’ She further emphasized that territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law, essential not only for the EU but for nations worldwide, expressing full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland.
