Over 2,600 Displaced in Sudan’s Kurdofan Region Amid Escalating Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has documented the displacement of 2,615 individuals across Sudan‘s Kurdofan region in recent days. In a statement released on Tuesday evening, the IOM confirmed that its field teams recorded 1,475 displaced persons from Kadugli, the capital of South Kurdofan State, on December 21 and 22. An additional 180 people fled Deleng, 60 from Dulami, and 900 from the village of Al-Shool in North Kurdofan’s Bara province.
The IOM noted that Kadugli and Deleng have been under siege by the Rapid Support Forces and their allies from the Popular Movement for over two years since the conflict began. The Kurdofan states (North, West, and South) have witnessed heavy clashes in recent weeks, resulting in the displacement of tens of thousands.
Displaced civilians have sought refuge across various locations in South Kurdofan, North Kurdofan, and White Nile states, with the security situation remaining “highly volatile and unstable,” according to the IOM. The organization emphasized it will continue to closely monitor developments.
Earlier on December 18, the IOM reported that the number of displaced persons in the three Kurdofan states had reached 50,445 between October 26 and December 17. The conflict between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces began in April 2023 over the integration of paramilitary forces into the national army structure, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and displacing over 13 million people across Sudan.
