Jordanian Army Targets Syrian Territory Under Pretext of Drug Smuggling

Jordan’s armed forces have conducted operations against weapon and drug smugglers in northern border areas with Syria, while Syrian media reports additional airstrikes near Al-Suwayda province.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Jordan‘s military has launched security operations targeting weapon and drug trafficking networks along its northern border with Syria. The Jordanian Armed Forces stated they struck smuggling bases used as infiltration points into Jordanian territory.

Official Jordanian news agency Petra reported the actions as part of border security measures against organized smuggling operations. Meanwhile, Syria’s Al-Ikhbariya network claimed Jordan conducted subsequent airstrikes near Al-Suwayda in southern Syria, followed by illumination flare deployments along the border.

The military actions follow Jordan’s recent announcement of joint counterterrorism operations with the United States against ISIS in Syrian territory.
